Integrative Approaches to Diabesity

Diabetes and obesity are an epidemic in our country. A 2005 report in the New England Journal of Medicine stated the current generation of children in America may have a shorter life expectancy than their parents . . . due to the rapid rise in obesity leading to earlier onset of such illnesses as diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure and cancer. Overweight and obese people make up over 2/3 of the American population. Mary will discuss the pathophysiology and diagnostic tests for diabetes, obesity and the metabolic syndrome. She will then discuss conventional and alternative approaches to reducing the epidemic of diabetes and obesity in this country.
